Terrible expensive laptop

Pros:

Processor, Memory, Input/Output compatibility, Keyboard/peripherals, Wireless card, Display resolution, Screen size, Display performance, Bluetooth, Weight, Battery, Software compatibility, Durability, Warranty, Support, Security Features, Build Quality
Cons: Storage, Video card

I've had ThinkPads since 1994, and there's a reason I keep coming back to the brand: they work well and reliably.

The build quality of this X200 is higher than any previous ThinkPad I've owned. It's tightly constructed, the screen looks great, the trackpoint works well, the keyboard (as always) is delightful.

My only gripe is with the graphics engine, which does not drive 3D graphics too well. Yet, even with this limitation, the unit performs superbly with Powerpoint and even Photoshop (I do a fair bit of photo editing on this unit).

It's so much lighter and easier to manage than my previous T42p, not to mention faster.

I'm delighted with my purchase of this unit. It's not a desktop replacement, but it's close enough in terms of power that it could reasonably serve as a sole computer if you have a good monitor to use with it.

Nice job, Lenovo.

Still a Thinkpad

Pros:

Processor, Memory, Storage, Screen size, Display performance, Weight, Battery, Durability, Warranty, Security Features, Build Quality
Cons: Wireless card, no aps feature in linux.

As an owner of a 600x and T42, the x200 build quality sits somewhere between the two IBM models, with the 600x having the best build. For such a tiny package, the x200 packs quite a punch in terms of power, without overheating like other ultraportables. The textures used on the body panels feel great and enhance the sensation of durability.

Linux (openSuSE 11.1) works fine out of the box, with the exception of the integrated camera; after installing Cheese, the camera works in all the software I've tried (including Cheese, Kopete, and Skype). Active Protection System doesn't work though; I hope the Thinkpad team can collaborate with Linux distributions in the future to bring this feature to realization in the Linux environment. The motherboard supports booting from USB, so it is possible to install Linux from a USB stick.

One knock I have against the machine is the thin LCD panel; I realize that the LED backlighting allows a thinner panel, but it doesn't seem to be as durable as the panels on my 600x and T42. My boss likes to poke screens when pointing things out and I found a burnt-in spot on my screen after about a month now of use. While not directly the fault of lenovo, my previous machines were fine despite my boss' annoying habit.

Also the horizontally-mounted wireless antennas seem to be weaker than the ones on my T42, although this might be a problem with the Linux drivers. I got the low end Atheros module, so that might be another factor. But antennas are more sensitive in the vertical position, so I am quite perplexed by the design.

The battery is bad

Pros:

Processor, Wireless card, Weight, Warranty
Cons: Battery

Keep an eye on the battery, I only used it for 6 month and now it could not be charged any more!
