nice book

Pros:

Processor, Memory, Durability
Cons: Display performance, Video card, Support

This T400 is better than most of the models and other brands out there in terms of reliability and the price.
Great all-around laptop

Pros:

Processor, Memory, Storage, Input/Output compatibility, Keyboard/peripherals, Display resolution, Screen size, Display performance, Video card, Bluetooth, Weight, Battery, Durability, Warranty, Support, Build Quality, trackpoint
Cons: Keyboard/peripherals, Wireless card, Display performance

I own a mid-range T400 discreet graphics and an Apple MacBook Air. The MacBook is my primary computer for work and short-hop travel while the T400 is my long-haul travel and entertainment laptop.

When buying a T400, be sure to get a late production (or build-to-order) as the early ones like mine (built September 08) lacked some bracing for the keyboard and resulted in a lot of flex. Lenovo replaced my T400 keyboard with a T61 keyboard that solved the problem.

This is a very fast computer running 64 bit Vista business and gets extraordinary battery life, roughly an hour per "cell", meaning 4 hours with the 4 cell and a whopping 9 hours with the 9 cell. I don't own the 6 cell. I also have the ultrabay battery and when combined with the 9 cell and moderate power management the T400 can run for over 11 hours, WOW!

The T400 keyboard deserves a bit more mention. The new design keyboard is every bit as good as the old one, and just more flexible (though lighter). Lenovo solved the flex problem by adding some bracing to the frame beneath the keyboard, so the ideal is a new T400 with the T400 keyboard. My T61 keyboard has equally good key action, but is a few grams heavier.

I highly recommend the switchable graphics. The integrated graphics are terrific, more than up to DVD movies, browser-based games and any type of documents or presentations. The discreet graphics aren't anywhere near cutting edge gaming levels, but with even modern games on moderate settings it does just fine. I play Fallout 3 and Mass Effect on my T400 at medium settings and graphics are fluid and smooth. I have the 1440X900 WXGA+ LCD, so if you get the 1280X800 you can probably use higher graphics settings in your games.

Best of all, however, is that this is a ThinkPad. I am so glad that Lenovo didn't change the formula of the T series. An inch thick, 5 lbs, 14" screen. There is no better combination of comfort, power and portability on the market.
Great Laptop

Pros:

Processor, Memory, Storage

I have the T400 with the 9 cell and I get about 7 - 8 hours with max brightness and occasional surfing. Incredible battery life. The keyboard is what you would expect from a Lenovo. Excellent build quality, there is no flex at all on the laptop, I can pick it up from the edge with fear of the plastic cracking.
