sleek and stylish

Pros:

Processor, Memory, Keyboard/peripherals, Wireless card, Display resolution, Screen size, Display performance, Included software, Durability, Security Features, Build Quality
Cons: Storage, Weight, Battery

The machine has a lot of features, from fingerprint recognition software to screen light to an integrated camera. I got the fastest processor available with plenty of L2 cache and the performance is second to none. However, the battery life is not very good, as it starts depleting quickly if left unplugged for a few minutes, especially on the maximum performance setting. Overall though, good bang for the buck, but the buck is no small change either.
R400 Great Deal like a "T" in disguise

Pros:

Processor, Memory, Storage, Keyboard/peripherals, Display resolution, Screen size, Display performance, Video card, Battery, Durability, Warranty, Build Quality, value

I only had a certain amount to spend, so a comparably equipped "T" series was out of the running. I have only had T series since the T40, so I was a bit leary of an R. Well, to my surprise, the R is everything a T is in my estimation, but the cost. Might be a tiny bit bigger, and some other minor differences, but if you are on a budget this is it. The WXGA+ LED backlit screen is the best ever... so good at times I have to turn DOWN the brightness. Graphics even with the integrated card are excellent for everyday use. I stay with ThinkPads largely because of the TrackPoint feature. But with display and other inprovements, as well as reasonable costs... there just is NO competition out there for a ThinkPad. THANKS!
Doesn't live upto the reputation

Pros:

Processor, Input/Output compatibility, Wireless card, Screen size, Weight
Cons: Memory, Storage, Included Software, Warranty, Build Quality

I just bought ThinkPad R400. Lenovo have used cheap plastic for laptop body which shows. There were some dead pixels on the screen too. In the brand new notebook, palm rest panel was not secured properly and had some play. I upgraded the memory to 4GB by afterwards (from newegg) at much cheaper rate. While changing the memory I noticed that the plastic frame inside had a "used" look as if it was taken from an old notebook. Audio jack sockets were too hard - I had to use more than normal force to push the headphone jack.

Vista is horrible. I plan to install XP Professional that I already have.

And yes, the 6 cell battery protrudes out and looks ugly. Looking at the pics in the gallery and the video doesn't clearly show this - perhaps laptops in those pictures have 4 cell batteries. I'd not have selected a 6 cell battery if I knew it would not be looking same as in the video and pictures. Please read the dead pixel policy before buying any notebook. They need at least 3 dead pixels for replacing. And it seems they do not do a proper quality check on new laptops.

The only good thing about this laptop is that is is very quiet."1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Share this Review:Review 2 for R400_INTEL Overall5out of 5Performance5out of 5Mobility5out of 5Design5out of 5Features4out of 5Value5out of 5Reliability5out of 5 Rainbow

"Having my own (IBM) T series, I looked to Lenovo to select a notebook for my sister, who has difficulty with almost any thing computerized. The R series, set up for her needs, size availability (a crowded desk!) and flexibility of programing was perfect! She loves it, and I am able to help her easily. I wouldn't select any other manufacturer..this notebook itself, and the people behind it, who help so efficiently are clearly superb.
