Cons: Battery

This is a great laptop for anyone and I would recommend it 100%! The only Con would be the battery life (2 1/2 hours) but hey, the pros weigh too heavily to miss up this opportunity."1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Share this Review:Review 3 for 42312DUOverall5out of 5Performance4out of 5Mobility5out of 5Design5out of 5Features4out of 5Value5out of 5Reliability5out of 5 CargoJack

I am glad I bought my S-10Date: December 17, 2008Pros: Display performance, Weight, Software compatibility, Build Quality
Cons: Memory, no bluetooth

"I previously bought a Thinkpad R-40 in 2002, when Thinkpad was still IBM. I got the R-40 in large part because of all laptops, it had the best keyboard and the most solid feel. It is 2008 and my R-40, despite years of being knocked around, still works. When the netbooks, like the Asus and others came out, I decided to wait to get Lenovo's offering, since www.engadget.com posted that Lenovo was planning a netbook. I ordered an S-10 the first day it was offered for sale in the US. It did hang a few times, but I had 2 G of RAM installed, and now it runs great! Despite a plastic-like appearance, it feels solid. It took awhile to adpat to the slightly smaller keyboard. The screen is bright and clear. I have been using it daily. The WiFi receiver works great. Even though it has the 3 cell battery, it works for hours. I do wish I had gotten the new larger HD drive version. I loaded Thunderbird, Firefox, Word, and OpenOffice and have not had a problem running any of those programs. I have also had a magic Jack www.magicjack.com and the Vonage softphone run successfuly on it. I recommend this netbook to anyone who wants an inexpensive, portable computer.

Very Happy

Pros:

Display performance, Build Quality

Absolutely love this machine. Solid build. Easily added a GB of RAM for $20 - total now is 1.5GB. Very good Touchpad, unlike other laptops I've had where I was unable to ever get the pointer motion and touchpad sensitivity how I wanted. No problems using Skype with built-in webcam and microphone.

Biggest drawback is that the fan is a little louder than the typical laptop fan - and it tends to cycle on and off if you have Energy Management on Performance or Balance. I'm hoping for a BIOS update to have the fan run slower and steadier.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this machine to friends and family."1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Share this Review:Review 5 for 42312DU Overall5out of 5Performance4out of 5Mobility5out of 5Design4out of 5Features4out of 5Value5out of 5Reliability5out of 5 MobileLawyer

Excellent Travel CompanionDate: November 20, 2008Pros: Processor, Keyboard/peripherals, Display performance, Weight, Durability, Build Quality, compact & light
Cons: Memory, Screen size

"The S10 is an astonishing value for the money, and performs admirably (after you throw in a 1 GB stick of RAM, a process that will cost you about $30 and two minutes of your time). The smaller-than-standard keys are sufficiently large that touch typing is generally not a problem, but the tiny TAB button is hard to hit. The LED-backlit screen is very nice and sharp, if vertically abbreviated. The case is very attractive and seems mechanically sturdy so far, but the "e" on the Lenovo logo on the outside of the case has already fallen off.

With the power brick and very long power cord - which can be a blessing or a curse, depending on the circumstances - it weighs in at about three pounds. Its dimensions and weight make it perfect for travel, particularly on a plane, but don't expect more than two and a half hours on the standard battery.

A cost-conscious purchaser can outfit the S10 with OpenOffice, AVG Anti-Virus and Spybot - all free from download.com - and walk away with a fully-functional laptop for less than $500.

Finally, it's a Lenovo, so you know that it's well-engineered and that the company will stand behind their product.

S10

Pros:

very easy to upgrade
Cons: usb ports a problem with ibasso d2 headphone amp

A nice little portable entertainment device great for listening to music and playing ripped dvds while sitting on public transportation. Onboard sound quality is surprisingly good. I did have a problem with the USB ports with an external usb headphone amp but resolved it by using a hub. Very easy to upgrade. 2 screws and you're in to the ram & hdd compartment. I immediately added a gig of ram that I had lying around and upraded the HD to a 320 gig by cloning the original using Aconis True Image 11. Cloning the the hd is something I recommend that all laptop owners do as soon as they get their machine the way they like it. A 320 gig HD is only 80 bucks and you have the orginal sitting on a shelf for when you need it. Absolutely nothing wrong with the way this litttle machine runs XP.
