I have had nearly all of the smaller laptops the past 2 months on a trial basis, from friends/buy and try, etc. The dv3 is the best of them all, bar none. The backlight keyboard, available only on ordered from HP, is one of the best features availalbe on any laptop. The smaller, thinner size, and lighter weight all combine for a really great traveler. Did I mention the backlight keyboard? Gotta have that for only $25 additional cost. Best money to be spent on this unit. No dissappointments whatsoever in this unit.
The features of the dv3 combined with the attractive design, light-weight, and relatively low price make it a powerful, unbeatable combination. I couldn't be happier.
I ordered the Pavilion dv3 over a month ago to replace a Pavilion laptop that I used for over two years. Although I am usually difficult to please, the dv3 has delivered an excellent result. Straight out of the box, I was impressed with how sleek and attractive the computer was. I was initially hesitant to order one of the new "bronze" computers, but the color is quite subtle, and is actually a nice improvement from the shiny black model I replaced. I wondered if the color would be less "masculine" than I wanted, but I would confirm that the opposite is true - the color is not gender-specific. After seeing the bronze, I actually prefer it to the other colors offered by HP. I have received countless compliments from my colleagues, many of whom have expressed regret at recently purchasing a laptop that didn't at all compare to the one I just bought.
After powering up the computer, I instantly recognized the beauty of the LCD screen. It is extremely bright - revolutionary compared to my previous laptop. I was most surprised to be able to clearly see my screen even when I was in direct sunlight. I could only discern the image of my previous screen in "prime" conditions. I should also mention that the 13.1 inch screen is a welcome addition to the HP size. To anyone who requires portability but still enjoys using a laptop for entertainment, the screen size is literally perfect. One of the only negative aspects of the computer is the color of the letters on the laptop keyboard. The keyboard is "bronze" and the letters are white. I can only see the letters in perfect lighting conditions, or in the dark when I can use the back-light (worth the upgrade).
Finally, the system performance is amazing. It has great wireless capabilities, and it picks up signals better than my previous laptop. The computer is super lightweight compared to other models, which is a huge bonus. However, the small size combined with a powerful processor cause the computer to heat up quickly. The fan blows loudly at times, but it isn't usually bothersome. I would recommend adjusting the power settings to avoid running the fan at full force too often.
Overall, this computer deserves a hard earned 5 stars. Of course there are better computers in the world, but not for the price-range of the HP dv3. I would highly recommend this computer to anyone in the market. My friends have been jealous of my purchase, and yours will be too. Most importantly, you will appreciate the beautiful screen, excellent design, solid performance, and noticeable light-weight.
Anyone in the market for a laptop, would be wise to look no further than the dv3z. It will meet all your needs, and then some. I am a photographer, and my images just shine on the screen. The colors and detail are outstanding.
I customized mine, and that seems to add just a bit more flare to the already excellent product. It is everything it says it is.
I need to get used the finger print reader...I seem to go too fast when running my finger over it. Time will take care of that.
