Great laptop

Fast, big and bright screen, very nice sound, very good keyboard. I never encountered the video card problem mentioned by some other reviewers. But I did update the video driver from NVIDIA anyway (released in March). It is a good replacement for my desktop. Only thing I can complain is the weight and size, which is of course for an 18" laptop. Spent $1,200 in total to order it. Later when I tried to cancel the order for adding another 2GB memory, HP told me that they can give me $80 credit if I could keep the order. So I really spent $1,120 including tax (dv8t, 4GB, 500GB HD, bluetooth and a case). It is the best buy. Go get it and you would not regret.

It impresses...

This new dv8t is far and away superior to my old dv9700. In fact the old machine looks and feels like a toy in comparison.

The build quality alone was apparent as soon as I touched a key. The keyboard is solid as a rock and even the keys are of a higher quality plastic (wish it was lighted though).

This is an elegant machine in appearance...very impressive...and the 18" HD screen is a marvel. Oh, and don't worry about not having a latch when the lid is closed...there are large rubber bumpers on the top and sides and the lid closes and stays closed and it fits well.

I opted for 8 GB of RAM and two 500GB hard drives as I use the machine for editing photos and videos. This along with the 1 gb discrete graphics should be more than adequate and hopefully I won't be looking for a replacement any time soon.

I've had the machine two days now and so far not a hiccup, and it worked perfectly out of the box.

My old machine has performed well for over two years and I expect this new machine to do the same.

This is my third HP laptop. I bought the first one in 2001.

HP DV8

Impressive desk top replacement unit with great multimedia integration. The best laptop I have come across for features and price. Although it is on the weighty side.
