Student on a tight tight budget

OK, I have been running this for almost 3 months now. I have to say this machine is a powerhouse. I have not been able to bog it down with anything I have thrown at it.

First the bad: I am a college student and this puppy packs on the pounds. I knew this going in and I am ok with it, but the extra weight in the bag with all my books is rough carrying around campus. Next is finding a bag large enough to actually fit this beast. Once again I knew it going in. I ended up getting a timbuk2 commute 2.0. Last bad is the normal bloatware that come loaded. Only about 30 minutes to remove it all and configure the settings for how I like to run my rig.

Now the GREAT! i7 is insane. Games, CAD 2010, video editing/converting. You cant stop this processor! I have 6 gb of ddr3 and let me tell ya, I haven't even come close to using it all. The Nvidia 1gb video card handles the load with ease. Slowest frame-rate I have experienced is 50 fps. Not shabby for a mobile pc. The 17.3 monitor is flawless. Doesn't do full 1080, but still displays graphics extremely well. Battery not bad with about 2 hours unplugged. It's huge so this is great in my opinion.

To sum it up, this rig is phenomenal, may not be the best choice for a college student concerned with weight and size. If you can get over that, you cant get more bang for your buck. Windows 7 64bit is pretty good, but if you can load a linux flavor you won't be sorry. As an engineering student, I am very pleased knowing I will not have to worry about my pc until well after I have graduated. By the way for those having issues with iPod connectivity, you need the 64 bit itunes, and may help by running it in a vista environment instead of the native windows 7.

Oh yeah, $1500 may seem steep, but you won't be sorry. This will hold your needs for many years to come. (well as many years as you can in the computer world. LOL.)

Powerful Performer an Excellent Surprise

This is my first HP computer. Over the years I've typically purchased from a competitor. This machine from a specification perspective seemed to offer the best balance of performance and features for the price. I've been using this for a month and a half now and have not been disappointed. Plenty of power for multi-tasking. Easy to use. The built in HP features rather than a lot of bloatware enhance the experience, The software included is useful and further rounds out a great package. It runs cool given it's size and is easy to manage. I also use this to capture some missed TV episodes hooked up to my HDTV. Great keyboard, media controls on the panel, decent sound for a laptop, plenty of ports. The memory card reader makes it easy to download photos from the camera.
The team that designed this thing were on the mark that day.
The only negative I have is the glossy screen. I work in a well lighted area and the glare is sometimes a problem. Other than that, this is an awesome value.

Great Laptop

I currently own an HP Pavilion dv6 with a 17" screen and this laptop and I am very happy with the quality and speed of both computers. If you are looking for a laptop that is built to last then I highly recommend HP. You won't find a better laptop anywhere else.
