Awesome!!

I am getting ready to retire and needed a small computer for travel and connecting at hot spots. I was tired of lugging the monster of a company computer around. The Mini 311 appealed to me because of the size and functionality. I don't game and I'd rather travel with my Soney e-book than lug around dvd's. After only 5 days, I love this netbook!! It fits my purposes exactly and provides access to the internet for e-mail and surfing. One of the really helpful aspects of the entire purchase was speaking to an HP person real time. He helped me pick out the netbook best suited for me and also a wireless printer. Kudos to HP and their sipport staff.

Best netbook out there

I've been tempted to switch from a full feature laptop to a netbook for a while now, and finally decided to go with this model. I opted to max out everything--3GB ram, Windows 7, 320 GB Disk, etc. Fully configured, the price climbed a bit, but considering this will be my primary home computer, I figured the extra horsepower would be well worth it.

Battery life seems pretty strong considering the feature set. Looks like about 6 hours for the 6 cell while on wifi and surfing around. I'm also doing a ton of downloading and file transfers as I get it set up. I'm happy to see that it handles a lot of multi-tasking without a lot of slow down. I've got a few browers open, copying a music and pictures around, downloading open office, and chatting on pidgin--all at the same time. Everything seems pretty snappy thus far.

I've hooked it up to an external 24" display (via HDMI, 1900+ x1080p) and everything looks great. Looking forward to the new release of flash that will allow the GPU to do the decoding--should help performance a bit and help when hooking it up to my 46" LCD in the living room for hulu and netflix The built in screen is crisp and bright--really out classes 9-10" models--the extra resolution makes surfing the web completely natural. I switched from a 13.3 inch machine and I have 14.1 inch laptop for work...the HP mini looks and feels great compared to those sizes.

Fit and finish is ok--it's not going to blow you away with build quality, but it does seem pretty solid. Great portable size and the keyboard is very comfortable to type on. Trackpad will take some getting used to, but this is mostly as a result of the small form factor. Compared to other netbooks, HP is near the top in these categories.

As an every day web and email machine I couldn't be happier with my choice. I switched from a 3 year old $1300 mac. Apples to Oranges, but for what my current computing needs are, this is the best machine out there!

Just Amazing!

I sat on the netbook sideline from the beginning waiting for this netbook, and that wait was worth it. I'm in love with this amazing, amazing machine. The nvidia ion does everything they said it would and more, and if you think this stock XP version is good, just give it a try with Windows 7 Home Premium and upgraded ram to 3GB. I just did these upgrades today and I'm just blown away with what this thing is doing. So if like me you've been sitting on the sideline waiting for the right netbook to come out this is it. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
