i had an alienware befour this and I cant even compare the two. The hp hdx has a better screen and is ten time faster. I think this is the best computer on the market. BUY THIS ONE you will not make a mistake.
This may not be the best laptop out there but it is pretty high on the list.
Pros: Nice bright screen; Large size (con and plus) means big screen; has options to get a very fast processer, although the one it comes with is decent.
Cons: Large size (con and pluse) not something you would want to be continously traveling with; doesn't snap shut
I have been trying several different laptops over the last two years and I must say that I have finally found one that I fell in love with.
My HP HDX 18 has an Intel Quad core processor (Q9000) and a 64 bit OS with 4 Gigs of RAM, a 500 GB Hard drive and an Nvidia 130m GT video card which is about the same as an overclocked 9650.
The work "powerhouse" is about as accurate as I can get.
I mainly wanted a laptop I could play today's demanding games on like "Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Left for Dead, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, and many others.
I can play Crysis and Crysis Warhead at High settings at 1900x1080 and it is as smooth as can be. No lag, just smooth, lag free gaming.
As for the display, I have never seen a laptop with a display as good as this one. Colors absolutely pop and it is just gorgeous. Seriously.
The sound that this machine puts out is yet another outstanding feature of this beast. There has been times when I've been playing music on Pandora and people have asked where the stereo is. Believe me, it doesn't sound like a laptop.
This machine is a true desktop replacement. Better yet, I think it could replace several desktops.
In all honesty, the HP HDX 18 is an extremely powerful computer that will amaze you with it's display, it's sound, and it's performance.
I am very picky when it comes to laptops. I have gone through 6 of them in the last year looking for the right one that can really perform and give you something back for your buck.
I would put my HDX up against Alienware's M17 any day.
