When you scan in a document that's not full size(8x11) then, the scan picks up the negative and Slider holder in the top, and displays them in your finished document. I fixed the problem by taping a full sheet of photo paper to the top, but the company shouldn't assume that everybody is going to always scan in a full size document, I archive all my monthly statements and not all of them are full size. Otherwise the scanner works perfect. I especially like the slide and negative feature, I have hundreds of photos and slides that I want to digitally archive and turn in slide shows.

This is a great scanner and for the price you can't go wrong.HP has been making great scanners for a long time.The only reason I had to get a new one is because my old HP scanner is not compadable with Vista.
