I owned an HP 1100 which I have had for over ten years and it was still working fine. But the new computer did not have a serial port so it was time to upgrade. Machine is very fast and print is great. A bit louder than expected but I will live. Install took less than 10 minutes. Price was great with trade in rebate.
I've owned various printers over the last 25 years, all the way back to dot matrix, so don't expect any noise complaints from me. I've seen much noisier printers being used in small businesses every day. I bought a used 4000 series Laser printer about seven years ago and it has been a real workhorse. This printer is replacing that one at my home. I set up my printer the same day it was delivered, I'm running XP Pro and there were no issues at all. I've printed a couple papers from Word and it works just fine. It has excellent print quality and is it ever fast. If you are going to use it for home based business, small business, or personal applications you can spend much more and get much less.
I've always had HP's at work and I bought one 10 years ago when my son was in college. That printer is still working. Wanted a new printer for my home office so I researched all the HP's and chose this one. It was really easy to set up and it works like a gem. I never handwrite envelopes..just put the envelope in the manual tray...and off it prints...
